On May 8, 2014, we received a message, on our Facebook; (https://www.facebook.com/drparvincarter). Rachel Thibeault , one of our “Fans”  asked to help posting her fund raiser site at : http://www.gofundme.com/Last-wish-for-Nana

This was what Rachel asked her community for help:

“Cynthia Hagan mother of 5 Nana to 9.In 2006 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. In 2012 it returned and it had Metastasis into her sternum and around her heart. Over the last 2 years she has done chemo, radiation, and surgery but it has not helped. It has now spread to her brain. Her doctors recently told her there is nothing more they can do. She also lost her mother and brother this last year. She also lost her home in the Clover fire in Sept. Saying this has been a tough year is an understatement. Still she has stayed hopeful. Her wish is to take her family on vacation. She wants a vacation so she can see everyone smiling and having fun!! Raising 5 kids didn’t leave much money and she has never been able to take her family on vacation. Can you please help bring a last wish to life for an amazing Nana and mom? We would be so appreciative and eternally grateful to you to know she got her last wish and to see her happy! You are making a wish come true for a very special person!!!!! Thank You all so much for taking your time to read her story please share!!!!!”

We sent two of our employees to visit with this Redding mother and take pictures of her and family.

We then posted the story Rachel wrote (above), and added: the following in our Facebook:

Can you please help bring a last wish to life for an amazing Nana and mother? We are asking your donation. If she meets her goal, we will choose one of the donors to get life time (as long as we are in business) free dental whitening at Dr. Parvin Carter, DDS, MAGD. Here is where you could make the donation:  http://www.gofundme.com/Last-wish-for-Nana.

The following weekend I went, along with my mother and my husband, to visit Cynthia at her home and invited Cynthia and her son Nick to go to dinner with us at Olive Garden.

Cynthia ate very little, she said she mostly drank protein shakes for food, when she could afford it.

She told us of her life story, how she had to clean houses to raise her five children and never afforded to go to any vacation. She was so kind and caring. She talked about all her children and grandchildren.  She talked about hardship that had happened to her and family yet she showed so much love and pride for how she stood behind her children.

She was so thankful and happy about the caring nature of our community. So many people had sent their prayers and donations.

We took the following picture before leaving Olive Garden. The posted on our Facebook:

On June 28, the celebration of the life of Cynthia Hagen was held with family and friends at Caldwell Park:

Rachel

I wanted to go to her celebration of life very badly. I lost my 22 year old daughter who was killed by a drunk driver many years ago. Since then,  I lost my ability to deal with any loss. I just could not be there.

This morning, June 29, I called Rachel, asked her how Cynthia’s Life Celebration went. She referred me to the following Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/523993221061570/?source=3&source_newsfeed_story_type=regular&fref=nf

When I saw the picture of flying balloons, I was reminded of the following poem from Rumi:

baloons

My soul wants to fly away
When your presence call it so sweetly.
My soul wants to take flight,
When you whisper, Arise
A fish wants to dive
From dry land into the ocean,
When it hears the drum beating ,Return
