Invisalign is a series of clear invisible plastic aligner trays that you wear over your teeth. Wearing these trays will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place. The aligners are prescribed by your dentist and designed by computer. Approximately every two weeks a new set of aligner trays would be given to you to replace the previous ones. Each Aligner set is tighter than the previous one and the pressure moves the teeth in an incremental manner with each new tray. The patient can remove the aligner to eat, drink, brush and floss.
You’ll visit Dr. Carter about once every 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. The treatment may take an average of one year but the duration may vary from case to case.
Invisalign is a great way to treat many kinds of malocclusions or bad bites. There are two things to be sure you understand before undergoing this treatment. First that it requires compliance with wearing the aligners as instructed. Second, the experience and skill of the doctor overseeing your care.
Traditional braces are metal wires and brackets that are bonded to the teeth. The brackets are not removable. Brackets can cause soreness and irritation to the inside of the lips, cheeks and tongue. There are limitations on what patients can eat or chew while in traditional braces (popcorn, chips, gum) these types of foods can loosen brackets and damage wires. Brushing, flossing and overall good oral hygiene are a challenge especially in school age children due to non compliance. With Invisalign The patient can remove the aligners to eat, drink, brush an floss and simply put them back.
Invisalign is a great way to achieve straight teeth and still be comfortable in social situations. They are comfortable and speech is most often not affected.
During the past few years Invisalign Teen has really caught on and has been shown to be effective with teens. They really like the idea of wearing an “adult” appliance that is inconspicuous and cool!
Invisalign Teen has important added features that address the needs and compliance issues of teens which are a bit different than adults. Colored “compliance tabs” can track actual wear time for your teen during each aligner so movements are completed before the next aligner is used. This product allows for adult teeth to erupt into place over time by providing spaces in the aligner. The use of Eruption tabs will prevent molars from pushing past their desired flat planes!. Invisalign can address Orthodontic issues present in many teenagers from 11 to 17!
Invisalign Teen is the same as Invisalign adult except for 3 things:
